Every year around this time, each village has a festival of their own called Kerwe. They have certain rituals they do for a whole week. Mainly it is for the teenagers, they get to drink all week.....it is pretty interesting/entertaining. I googled it and found another person's blog that explains some of these rituals here During the weekend, all the village gets together and has a parade. Brayden and Mallory were able to take part in the parade with the German Kindergarten. This year the theme was Bavaria.....so Brayden dressed up and sported my old Lederhosen! It was a blast!
the kindergarten preparing for the parade
I asked my friend to translate this.....she said it is a Bavarian slang word meaning tapping the beer barrel.
the drunk teenagers chanting before the parade began.....they had at parade around these long pom pom things and were the beginning of the parade
local band
some interesting/amusing folks in the parade. This float the guys dressed as girls and girls dressed as the guys. I laughed so hard!
The facial hair really makes the outfit!
the bakery had little girls handing out bread and pretzels to everyone
this guy has a beer in his hand.....my finger was fast enought to take the picture of him drinking it while driving the tractor! (and see the kids in the front of it!)
after they went around the whole town the pom pom is place up in the middle of town where it still hangs (I don't know how long they keep it up)
the teenagers again.....I thought this was pretty clever tying a couch on a lift tractor
one of the many drunks, pretending he is part of the band
the kindergarten tractor
Mallory waving to everyone
here's a better picture on his Lederhosen!
