December 5 - ESSLINGEN CHRISTMAS MARKET

I love a good Christmas market. I have been googling the many different Christmas markets around us for day trips. In this town, Esslingen (close to Stuttgart), there is a wonderful Christmas market with a medieval flare. They had people making handcrafted items from candles (where you could make your own), a little house for kids to make cookies, glassblowing, etc. The picture below they were making wooden spoons. On my top Christmas market list......this comes in a close second. Chemnitz is still my favorite.

Mallory went on a hand-turned farris wheel. There are handles around the wheel. The two men would turn the wheel to make it go. Cost was 2 Euros ($3). The Euro rate is really bad now. I withdrew 60 Euros for our trip the other day........it was over $90! Crazy!

Someone made these beautiful luminaries
Games included archery and dart throwing (they had metal knives for dart throwing)
Wooden toys
One tired little boy
Table linens

Beautiful at night
Christmas villages......German style
Me trying to figure out what wooden ornaments I want
Billy playing with the camera while I was shopping
Some antique looking things
The large pyramid
This town was very pretty even if there wasn't a Christmas market. It had very old German architecture and a castle on the hill

Real mistletoe
German pottery
Entertainment for the kids

Heidelberg tree lighting ceremony

back on post in Heidelberg.....they where admiring the nativity and riding the animals
Yep, another pretzel. They are going to turn into one giant pretzel.
Santa
They did a lot better this year. It has been great this Christmas. Both of them are really understanding what Christmas really is. We have been talking about baby Jesus being born and seeing the nativities, explaining all about it. It has been so much fun.
